“Cut From The Same Cloth” / Canzine 2012

Cut From the Same Cloth” marks the very first joint project between the Phan siblings in their adulthood. Reviving the lost collaborative spirit of their younger years, Jeannie and Emmett Phan reconstruct the environments that birthed their creative partnership in a visual installation. Mysteries under blankets reemerge with flashes of light and shadow and nativity and wonder are re-explored through handmade environments.

I hope everyone enjoyed this piece at Canzine by the adult Phan siblings! It was a lot of work but an amazing time finally collaborating with my brother Emmett. We restricted ourselves to just the primitive tools we had as children: paper, scotch tape, and reliable white glue.

We wanted to create miniature scenes that with a swig of a shrinking potion, you could enjoy with us. Influenced by our beloved Nintendo 64 games, our aesthetic referenced basic polygonal shapes of game technology back in the day. Emmett took care of the lighting, adorning magical orbs onto our paper sculpture.

Canzine 2012

Yet another amazing year! Thank you everyone who dropped by to freshen up the event with your wonderful faces, and a special thanks to those who nabbed a zine. I am now on super low supply of both “Coping with Paradise” and “Bodies in Cosmos!

And lastly, thank you for the wonderful conversations I had with all the followers I met. You are all great people.

See you next year!

THE BLOT: SEPTEMBER
I’m September’s artist “The Blot” which is a really ambitious local project that fuses experimental music and visual interpretation of sound. Thanks Ryan and Casey for the opportunity!
theblot:

Nonsense and violence; cold dust and spurious light: chapter Five hits hard, and in a thousand pesky pieces.
Tim Fagan of Ratail, Induced Labour, and Lice, and Moshe Rozenberg of DD/MM/YYYY and Absolutely Free have created a monster of a song, a terrorgasm in the face of reason.  Jeannie Phan has captured the wild sparks and melted them into a beautiful labyrinth of ink and space.  The Blot is inside it all, holding on.
Listen to the music and support all of our artists here!

Here are a few awesome blogs and websites that chose to feature my work (I know a lot of you reblogged, like, and tweeted from these places, so thank you to you too!).

Again, thank you! If you’re a fellow Canadian, hope you enjoy lots of turkey/tofurky/good company this weekend.
